Diabetes and Hypoglycemia

Diabetes is caused due to improper secretion of insulin by the body, resulting in high levels of blood glucose. This means that your body produces less insulin and your body needs more insulin in order to breakdown glucose and liberate energy. The normal glucose levels in blood should be between 70-100 mg/dL for fasting and 140 mg/dL random. It falls in three categories Type I, Type II and Gestational diabetes. It is a non-communicable chronic disease that can be controlled by medication and lifestyle changes.

Type I Diabetes

This type of diabetes is known also as juvenile diabetes, and is completely dependent on external insulin as the pancreas produces very little or no insulin at all. Viruses and genetics are responsible for Type I diabetes.

Type II Diabetes

This type of diabetes is characterized by high blood glucose or sugar levels. In this condition, the pancreas produces either very low insulin or your body is insulin resistant. Type II is most common and is very different from Type I, and can be hereditary. Obesity might trigger this type of diabetes.

Gestational Diabetes

Women develop high blood sugar during pregnancy, but the sugar levels become normal after childbirth. The mother does carry a risk of developing Type II diabetes in the future. Hypoglycemia is the condition which is marked by low blood sugar levels, and if it is not attended properly, can prove to be fatal.
